Welcome, Educators and Childcare Professionals!
The SmartChoiceParenting Programme: A Course for Teachers
We all know the profound impact a strong teacher can have on a child’s life. But equally significant, and often the foundation for success, is the role of a parent. This course delves into the critical connection between parenting and healthy child development.
We’ll explore how the quality of the adult-child (parents/teachers) educative relationship is the key factor in the healthy development of a child. This includes a child’s emotional well-being, social skills, and academic potential. Through a combination of knowledge, insights, and practical strategies, this course equips you to better understand and support the parents you interact with, ultimately fostering a more positive environment for learners to thrive.
Dr Ken Resnick has developed and evaluated by way of a doctoral thesis a unique and very effective parenting programme which is called SmartChoiceParenting (SCP).
During his research he became aware that virtually all evidence-based parenting programmes are psychological in nature and are based on cognitive behavioural principles and social learning theory where the emphasis is on helping parents manage their child’s behaviour and other developmental problems.
What makes the SCP programme different is that it is not a psychological programme, but an educative one, where parents are given the knowledge, understanding and skills which makes them aware that it is the quality of parenting that a child receives that lies at the root of virtually all developmental problems.
Topics that will be covered in this course:
• The Adult’s Role in Guiding a Child to Adulthood
• The Psychic Needs of the Child
• The Development of the Child
• The Essences of Educating (Parenting/Teaching)
• The Adult-Child Educative Relationship
• Problem Characteristics
• Learned Helplessness
• Compassionate Parenting
• The Child-Centred Approach and the Parent-Centred Approach
• Parenting Management and Inappropriate Parenting Styles
This course focuses on assisting teachers and other professionals to fully understand that a learner’s difficulties are not only about cognitive development.
You will come away with a different perspective regarding learners diagnosed with developmental disorders and be equipped to assist parents in understanding their role in helping their child who has been diagnosed with some or other disorder, become more motivated and independent.
Be prepared for a new, enlightening, thought-provoking experience which will spark hope for future generations and open your eyes to new possibilities!
But… we need to change our thinking and pave an alternative way forward where the focus shifts from the child to the adult educator’s role, including teachers and other professionals working with children!
